Not always. You almost always need a driver who knows the routes; a guide is worth it if no one speaks Mongolian or Russian or you want cultural depth.

Yes, with an International Driving Permit and your home licence — realistic on paved roads, demanding off-road. Rentals often cost more than a driver with vehicle.

Many nationalities can visit visa-free for tourism (30 days for 34 countries until 1 January 2027; other agreements exist). Others use the e-visa. Always check for your passport.
